Woods studied
meteorology and became a meteorologist serving at the Navy's San Diego, Calif.,
Midway Island and Hawaii weather stations. While serving in the Navy he was
active in sports, participating in basketball and tennis. He captured the South
Pacific singles tennis championship for the Navy.
